How to swap an Additional Parent/Guardian to a Primary Parent?

A Family needs to have one mandatory Parent which is treated as a Primary Parent. A Primary Parent cannot be deleted from GeniusOne® unless another Parent is first made a Primary Parent.


An Additional Parent can only be swapped as a Primary Parent from the Family module. To swap, use the Swap icon (green color icon) next to the Parent you want to make Primary.  Once the parent has been made a Primary Parent, they will receive all communications like Broadcast Emails, and all mobile app notifications as usual. 


Some notifications are only reserved for Primary Parents. They are:

  • Timeslot assignment to a student
  • New Timeslot Published
  • Inventory Issued
  • Inventory Returned 

Remember: After you make an additional Parent as a Primary Parent, their email will then be used to link the Family. If you want to then use the Bulk Upload tool to upload students or additional parent/guardian, you will need to use the new Primary Parent email ID for primary parent email in the CSV file for students and family.


For eg; Parent B is an additional Parent and Parent A is a Primary Parent. Parent B is then swapped and made a Primary Parent. Going forward, Parent B's email address will link the family and their email would need to be provided whenever doing a Bulk Upload operation. Parent B will also get all Broadcast emails going forward.
